SALT TALKS “Anything is Possible” Social cohesion and innovation featuring Claire Leuenberger and Scott Cane
Scott Cane will share the story of the extraordinary discovery and settlement of Australia by Aboriginal people and the innovations they made to live successfully in this diverse country and the mechanisms they developed to ensure survival and social cohesion.
Scott is an archaeologist and anthropologist who lives on Eyre Peninsula. He has PHD from the Australian National University and currently holds an Adjunct Professorship with the University of Tasmania. He has worked with and lived with Aboriginal people throughout Australia over the last 30 years and from those experiences has written two books – Pila Nguru (about the Spinifex people from the Great Victoria Desert) and First Footprints (about Aboriginal settlement and occupation of Australia).
In relation to tonight’s theme, ‘Anything Is Possible’ and its sub text ‘social cohesion and innovation’, Scott will give a brief talk on the extraordinary discovery and settlement of Australia by Aboriginal people and the innovations they made to live successfully in this diverse country and the mechanism they developed to ensure survival and social cohesion.
Claire Leuenberger will speak on the role of design and creativity/innovation in a social cohesion and innovation context and the scope of design – like we say at SALT Festival – anything is possible. Claire Leuenberger has completed Bachelor of Design at the Swinburne University of Technology and an Advanced Diploma of Commercial Arts, Graphic Design. She majored in Design Thinking and Psychology and is passionate about Design Strategy and Activation. Claire runs ‘Ville Creative’ a Design Agency based in Port Lincoln’s Lightbox CoWorking Space.
Ville Creative (coined by the definition of ‘village’ – in reference to people and culture) has expanded enormously in these past 5 years. Claire is a highly motivated and innovative creative collaborator who works as a freelancer including projects such as; Graphic Design & Brand Start Up, Digital Marketing & Brand Management including Photography & Websites, Mentoring Youth and Events. Claire is interested in how communities interact with design and how we can use innovation and technology as a tool to enhance community cohesion and promote positive social change for our future.
